Public Notice The Portland Water District / Westbrook-Gorham Wastewater Treatment Facility (MEPDES License #ME0100846) is providing public notice of Industrial Users that were in Significant Non- Compliance (SNC) with pretreatment standards and requirements during the pretreatment year from September 1, 2019 - August 31, 2020. Pretreatment standards and requirements have been adopted by the Portland Water District and City of Westbrook in order to ensure the continued safe operation of the sewer system and associated treatment works, and to protect the receiving water, which is the Presumpscot River. Schlotterbeck and Foss (3 Ledgeview Drive, Westbrook) was in Significant Non-Compliance for violations of the Westbrook ordinance limit for oil and grease. To address these violations Schlotterbeck and Foss installed pretreatment equipment. Since January 2020, when the new system went online, Schlotterbeck and Foss has been in compliance with oil and grease limits. Idexx (1 Idexx Drive, Westbrook) was in Significant Non- Compliance for a violation of the local limit for cyanide. The SNC designation was based on a single high result that had no known cause and has not been replicated. Idexx demonstrated a return to compliance with subsequent sampling events. Lone Pine (48 Sanford Drive, Gorham) was in Significant Non- Compliance for violations of the Westbrook ordinance limit for oil and grease. High oil and grease at this site was measured by a previous tenant in the building and may not originate in effluent from Lone Pine. The sampling point also receives wastewater from other facilities in the area. Lone Pine addressed the issue by installing a sampling point for the brewery only. Since installation of the new manhole all oil and grease results have been compliant. Irwin (37 Bartlett Road, Gorham) was in Significant Non- Compliance for violations of the Westbrook ordinance limit for oil and grease. Irwin investigated, performed maintenance on its pretreatment filtration system and subsequent resamples have shown a return to compliance.
