The PROTECT Study: Do early antibiotics after cardiac arrest stop pneumonia and help improve survival? The PROTECT Study is a research study being done at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine for people brought to an emergency department after cardiac arrest. This research study will teach us if giving antibiotics after cardiac arrest stops pneumonia, a lung infection, and helps people survive and recover. It will also tell us how antibiotics affect the normal bacteria in Scan here to complete the survey: our bodies. We do not know the best way to stop pneumonia after cardiac arrest; there are risks and benefits to each approach.
