NOTICE In the coming days, the Maine Department of Transportation, Pan Am Railways and the Cities of Portland and Westbrook are partnering to reconstruct two railroad crossings. The crossings are located in Portland on Route 25 (Rand Road) just west of Pine Tree Industrial Parkway and in Westbrook on Larrabee Road between Saunders Way and Terminal Street. Due to the nature of the work, vehicular and bicycle traffic will need to be detoured around the individual work sites while they are being constructed. The two railroad crossings will be constructed one at a time starting with the Rand Road crossing on Monday July 19th at 6 a.m. On Monday, traffic will be detoured along Route 25B (Brighton Avenue/ Main St.) to Larrabee Road to the Westbrook Arterial. Exit 47 of the Maine Turnpike will remain accessible from the Westbrook Arterial. Traffic exiting the Maine Turnpike at Exit 47 will be limited to left turns onto the Westbrook Arterial. Maine Turnpike motorists destined for downtown Portland are encouraged to utilize Exit 48 during this time. As soon as Rand Road is finished, Larrabee Road will be closed and traffic will be detoured onto Rand Road so the railroad crossing on Larrabee Road can be completed. Traffic will be detoured along the Westbrook Arterial to Rand Road to Route 25B (Brighton Avenue/Main St) to Larrabee Road. It is anticipated that rail replacement work on both crossings will be complete by July 30th. These rail improvements are being completed in conjunction with a $1.4 million roadway resurfacing project that begins at the 0.10 miles east of Pine Tree Industrial Parkway on Rand Road extending 0.97 miles to Larrabee Road and then continuing on Larrabee Road 0.97 miles to Riverside Street. Also, Route 25B (Main St). from the Westbrook/Portland town line west to 0.04 miles west of Larrabee Road will be resurfaced as part of the project. All work is anticipated to be completed by October. The Department has contracted Shaw Brothers Construction of Gorham to complete the work. All businesses will be open and accessible during the road closures.
